What is IB?
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme is a curriculum designed for students aged 3 to 12. The Primary Years Program transdisciplinary themes focus on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both at school and beyond.
Our students will…
- Develop socially and emotionally
- Develop an international-mindedness
- Develop strong personal values.
- Grow academically
- Gain independent learning skills, encouraging every student to take responsibility for their learning.
The programme incorporates local and global issues into the curriculum, asking students to look at six related, transdisciplinary themes and to consider the links between them.
PYP Transdisciplinary Themes:
- Who We Are
- Where We Are in Place and Time
- How We Organize Ourselves
- How We Express Ourselves
- How the World Works
- Sharing the Planet
Our IB Journey
Prairie View Elementary is a candidate school* for the Primary Years Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Prairie View Elementary believes is important for our students.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
